Sharpstar Optics is a Chinese astronomy products manufacturer who has recently released a new line of telescopes. The new ASKAR FRA telescopes are what the company calls a “Flatfield Refractive Astrograph” which offers a Petzval design.
Petzval telescopes are a 4-lens optical system that are exceptionally well corrected and offer very fast focal ratios which means the telescopes are well suited for imaging and visual observing. Sharpstar Optics’s first telescope in the new line is the f/5.6 ASKAR FRA 400 which offers a 400mm focal length, 72mm aperture, 140mm of backfocus and supports a 44mm full frame image circle.
The ASKAR FRA Telescope 400 package includes a retractable dew shield; a large 3″ rack-and-pinion focuser; a dovetail plate; a 360°rotator; multifunctional tube rings and 1.25″ eyepiece adapter with M68x1 thread.

The new telescope in the ASKAR FRA telescopes line includes two pieces of ED (extra-low dispersion) glass, providing excellent correction of chromatic aberration.
